Sky-high dining experience launches in Lisbon with nationwide expansion plan

A new elevated dining concept is set to debut in Lisbon, offering guests the chance to enjoy a gourmet meal while suspended 50 metres above the ground. Designed for thrill seekers and food enthusiasts, the experience blends fine dining with panoramic city views, creating a unique attraction within Portugal’s growing experiential tourism sector. Developed Portuguese company Sky Lounge, the concept introduces a rotating table lifted crane, allowing diners to take in sweeping views while enjoying a curated tasting menu prepared live during the session.

The Lisbon launch is scheduled to take place in the Belém district between May 29 and May 31, with each session accommodating 22 guests at a time. Across multiple sittings, the event is expected to host up to 180 participants. Guests will be seated around a central kitchen where a guest chef prepares dishes in real time, adding an interactive element to the experience. The rotating seating design ensures every participant has uninterrupted views of iconic landmarks including Belém Tower, Belém Palace and the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, enhancing the overall immersive appeal.

The concept reflects a broader shift toward experiential dining, where atmosphere and setting play as important a role as cuisine. combining altitude, movement and live culinary performance, the initiative positions itself within a niche segment of hospitality that prioritizes engagement and memorability. The use of a crane-based platform and controlled rotation system is designed to maintain safety while maximizing visual exposure, aligning with international trends seen in similar high altitude dining concepts across major cities.

Sky Lounge founder Francisco Mendonça described the project as an effort to merge gastronomy with visual spectacle, highlighting its limited availability across selected locations in Portugal. He emphasized that the experience is intended to go beyond traditional dining offering a fully immersive environment where food, scenery and presentation are equally important. According to the company, the format has been carefully designed to deliver a balance between safety standards and a sense of adventure, appealing to both local residents and international visitors.

Following its debut in Lisbon, the experience is planned to expand to Porto, the Algarve and Aveiro as part of a national tour. Each location will feature a different chef, adding regional diversity to the concept. In Porto, sessions will be led Ricardo Costa, a two Michelin star chef known for his work at The Yeatman. In the Algarve, Noélia Jerónimo will bring her coastal culinary expertise, while Aveiro will host Tony Martins, who was recognized as Chef of the Year in 2020. This rotating chef model is expected to enhance the appeal of each destination stop.

Pricing has been positioned within the premium dining segment, with lunch sessions set at €145 and dinner experiences priced at €175. The structured scheduling and limited capacity suggest strong demand potential, particularly during peak tourism periods. As Portugal continues to expand its hospitality offerings, concepts that combine entertainment, exclusivity and high quality cuisine are increasingly seen as a way to attract global audiences and differentiate local experiences in a competitive travel market.
