Artists from across Portugal are mobilising in a series of concerts, exhibitions and fundraising initiatives to support communities affected the recent severe storms that caused widespread damage in several regions. Musicians, visual artists and performers are joining forces to raise funds for local associations working on recovery and reconstruction efforts.

In Lisbon, the Damas venue will host the Benefit Distrito Leiria initiative on 25 and 26 February. The two day programme features performances Alex D’Alva, April Marmara, Inóspita, Luís Severo, Akila, Chinaskee, Filipe Sambado and Violeta Azevedo. Organisers describe the event as part of a growing national network of solidarity aimed at assisting InPulsar, an association based in Leiria that is helping rebuild homes destroyed during the recent extreme weather. Entry is set at a minimum donation of ten euros per day.

Solidarity events are also planned in Barreiro, where ADAO Associação Desenvolvimento Artes e Ofícios will host a charity concert on 1 March. The line up includes Maquina, Hetta, Cleric Beast, Prado and OkA. All proceeds from ticket sales will be directed to the ATLAS association, which operates primarily in Leiria, Marinha Grande, Pombal, Coimbra, Alcobaça and Batalha. In addition to a recommended donation of ten euros, attendees are encouraged to bring non perishable food items to assist families in urgent need.

Leiria itself will host a charity exhibition and fair on 28 February at the Atlas bar. Organisers have invited visual artists, sculptors and illustrators to submit original works up to A4 size for sale, with proceeds converted into essential goods for distribution to those affected Storm Kristin. The deadline for artwork submissions is 21 February.

In Oliveira do Bairro, the Quartel das Artes Dr Alípio Sol will stage a charity show on 19 February featuring José Cid, Meninos da Sacristia, Salomão and Bárbara Oliveira. Tickets are priced at ten euros, and funds will be used to purchase priority materials and equipment identified local authorities coordinating aid. José Cid’s own residence in Mogofores, in the municipality of Anadia, was among the properties impacted the recent adverse weather conditions.

Earlier this month, another Lisbon based concert titled Amor ao Centro raised 18,707 euros in support of storm victims. Of that amount, 11,107 euros were generated through an online campaign on the GoFundMe platform, while 7,600 euros came from ticket sales. The event featured performances Ana Lua Caiano, Bia Maria, Iolanda, Joana Espadinha and Surma. Funds were directed to ATLAS, which operates nationally with a strong presence in Coimbra and Leiria.

The wave of artistic solidarity highlights how Portugal’s cultural community is responding collectively to the devastation left recent storms, using creative platforms to channel financial and material support toward recovery efforts in the hardest hit areas.
