Viseu Showcases Dão Flavours at Winter Market Event

Viseu is hosting the winter edition of Dão no Mercado, a three day event that places the gastronomy and wines of the Dão region at the centre of the city’s historic core. Taking place at Mercado 2 de Maio from Friday evening through Sunday, the initiative brings together local producers, chefs and musicians in a market format designed to attract both residents and visitors. The event highlights regional food culture at a time when seasonal products and traditional flavours play an important role in local consumption and tourism. combining wine, cuisine and live entertainment in a central public space, the winter market reinforces Viseu’s position as a cultural and gastronomic reference point in the interior of Portugal.

The programme features 15 wine producers and estates from the Dão region alongside four well known chefs who will operate pop up dining spaces throughout the event. Visitors can sample dishes prepared chefs Luís Almeida, Hugo Marques, Guilherme Calheiros and Inês Beja, with menus designed to pair with a wide selection of regional wines. Participating producers include established names such as Quinta dos Carvalhais, Casa da Passarella, Quinta de Lemos, Niepoort and Quinta da Alameda, among others. The variety on offer reflects the diversity of grape varieties and wine styles associated with the Dão, providing an opportunity for direct contact between producers and the public.

Music and entertainment form a central part of the event’s atmosphere, with live performances scheduled across the three days. The lineup includes solo artists, instrumentalists and ensembles, as well as appearances local conservatory groups and a municipal competition winner. Evening programming on Friday and Saturday extends into themed DJ sessions, creating a festive environment that blends food, wine and nightlife. The winter edition of Dão no Mercado continues a format that promotes regional identity while supporting local producers and cultural initiatives, contributing to Viseu’s broader strategy of activating public spaces through community focused events.
